A woman who spent £60,000 on eerily lifelike dolls after being told she would never have children revealed her delight at becoming a mother for the first time.
Victoria Andrews, 26, of Newbury, Buckinghamshire, began collecting the toys, known as ‘reborns’, as a teenager after a polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis left her believing she would never have children of her own.
The single mother, who lives with her parents, was shocked to discover she was pregnant last year and welcomed son Tobias, affectionately known as Toby, in May.
She joked her son already has 40 brothers and sisters – and that she’s a mother of 41.
I understand a lot of people want to have babies and for one reason or another just can not make it happen. But spending $77,000 on “reborns” as those creepy as all hell dolls are known is a bit overkill. Then to actually get pregnant and render all those dolls useless is the real killer. I think I’m stating the obvious here but I am betting she and the baby daddy got it on at his place. I know if I went home with a girl (to her parents house, no less) and she had 40 fake life-like babies all over the place, I wouldn’t stay around long enough to get her pregnant. I’m glad she was able to have a real baby but when her kid gets older and realizes his mom had a identical doll made of him, he might not be sticking around either. Another downside is she has to invest in birth control again. No more raw dogging it. That might be the real tragedy of this whole situation.
